About Us

As you can see, Commit Snow and Skate has finally made the leap into the World Wide Web. Yes, it has been a long time coming but to understand why you must realize that we (Adam and myself) lack all necessary skills to even comprehend creating a website (no, we are NOT complacent…). Enter Jimmy Bones. He is our technical genius and is also one hell of a snowboarder. He is also is missing a good chunk of one ear…the early stages of Commit…

So Bones, through all his hard work has asked me to write a little something explaining who we are, what we are all about, where we are from and where we are going…something that I have struggled to define for an assortment of reasons. This can be attributed to the basic idea that Commit Snow and Skate has far too many faces and no one definition will give justice to this thing that has consumed our lives and devoured our self decency…

On Dictionary.com, a helluva website for a generation of newspeakers whose communication skills depend on text messaging and one liners on Facebook, commit has several definitions. Each one relates in its own way to our community, but I prefer number eight –

“to place in a mental institution or hospital by or as if by legal authority: He was committed on the certificate of two psychiatrists.”

So again, I’ve done little to define this thing. What is Commit? Answer the f****** question already…

For starters, Commit is based in the East Kootenay mountain range, amidst the most beautiful backdrop in the world. This is our home and our playground but we are not confined to any place or location.

Commit is a community. Anyone is welcome (long haired freaky people apply). Again, we refuse to be confined to any style or mindset.

Commit is the pursuit of personal goals through sport.

Commit is friendship. Even now, as I bang away at this keyboard I am surrounded by the people that make this happen…maybe I should get to work…or at least go buy some cold beverages for the unpaid… No explanation will suffice to express how fortunate we are.  Commit is everyone who has ever offered help, beer or loud music.

So a big thank you to anyone who has ever stepped through our doors, shared a chairlift or just said hello on your walk by. You know who you are. Thanks to Jimmy Bones for his endless hours and commitment to creating this website. And thank you for reading this sprawl.

Drinking
"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning that is the best they are going to feel all day."

- Frank Sinatra

Good Times
"Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll."

- Hunter S. Thompson
